The service
Not every crack is the same
Almost every slab cracks somewhere. Some cracks are hairline and stable. Others are wide, uneven or still moving. Joints, the cut lines in a slab, can chip and break down at the edges, especially under wheels.
Repairs are done after grinding and before coating, with fillers and repair materials suited to the damage. The key is telling the difference between a crack that can be filled and coated over, and a joint or moving crack that has to be allowed to move. Coat straight over a moving crack and it will usually crack through the new finish.
We'll be straight with you about what a repair can and can't fix. If a slab has structural problems, that's a question for an engineer before it's a job for a floor coater.

Every crack and joint is looked at, and the moving ones are sorted from the stable ones.

Cracks are ground or cut back so the repair material has something to bond to.

Fill & repair
Cracks, chips and spalled areas are filled with repair materials suited to the damage.

Treat the joints
Joints are cleaned out and treated so the slab can still move.

Coat
The floor is prepared and coated over sound, repaired concrete.

Will cracks come back through the coating?
Stable cracks that are properly repaired shouldn't. Moving cracks and joints are different: coat straight over them and they'll usually reappear, which is why they're treated so the slab can still move. We'll tell you which is which on your floor.
Can you repair cracks without coating the floor?
Crack repair is usually done as part of preparing a floor for coating, and repairs will be visible on bare concrete. If a repair on its own is what you need, call and we'll talk through whether it makes sense.
What causes concrete to crack?
Most often shrinkage as the concrete cures, but ground movement, tree roots, heavy loads and missing or poorly placed control joints all play a part.
