The service
When grinding alone won't fix it
A coating follows whatever's underneath it. If a slab is uneven, patchy, dished or badly damaged, a coating on its own won't hide it: dips hold water and high spots show through the finish.
Screeding lays a new levelling layer over the existing concrete to bring it back to flat, or to build in a fall so water drains away. It fixes uneven floors, fills low spots, covers damaged surfaces and evens out changes in level between areas.
The screed is then prepared and coated like any other slab, so it ends up as one continuous, finished floor.
How it works
How the job runs
Every slab is different, so the detail changes from job to job. This is the usual order of work.

Measure the levels
The floor is checked to see how far out it is, and where.

Prep the slab
The existing concrete is ground and prepared so the screed bonds to it.

Lay the screed
The screed goes down and is worked to level, or to the fall the drains need.

Cure
It's left to cure before anything goes over it.

Prep & coat
The screed is prepared and coated as part of the finished floor.

Screeding or grinding: which do I need?
Grinding takes material off, bringing down high spots and cleaning up the surface. Screeding adds material, filling low spots and bringing the floor up to level. Plenty of floors need a bit of both, and we'll work out which when we look at yours.
How thick is a screed?
It depends on how far out the floor is and the screed material used. We'll measure the levels before quoting, so the thickness is based on your floor rather than a guess.
Can screeding fix water pooling?
Yes. A screed can be laid to a fall so water runs to the drain instead of sitting on the floor. That's our floor drainage and falls work.
