Fast cure, made for the sun
Polyaspartic is a type of polyurea coating, and people choose it for two reasons. It generally cures much faster than standard epoxy, and it holds up better in sunlight without yellowing, which makes it a common choice for outdoor concrete and as a clear topcoat over flake.
The fast cure is a real advantage when a garage, shop or walkway can't be out of action for long. It also means a short working time while it goes down, so it's a system that rewards careful planning and a well-prepared slab.
Polyaspartic can be used as the full system or as the topcoat over an epoxy base. Which way we go depends on the area, the finish you want and how quickly you need the floor back.

How the job runs
Every slab is different, so the detail changes from job to job. This is the usual order of work.

Read the exposure
Sun, water and traffic decide how the system is built and how much grip it needs.

Grind & repair
The slab is opened up and repaired so the coating bonds to sound concrete.

Base & flake
A base coat goes down, with flake broadcast through it if that's the finish you've chosen.

Polyaspartic coat
The polyaspartic goes on as the full system or as the topcoat, with texture added for wet areas.

Back in use
You'll get realistic timing for foot traffic and vehicles, based on the product and the weather on the day.

Is polyaspartic better than epoxy?
It's different rather than better across the board. Polyaspartic cures faster and resists UV yellowing, so it comes into its own outdoors and on quick-turnaround jobs. Epoxy bonds very well and builds thickness well, so it's often used as the base with polyaspartic on top.
How soon can I use the floor again?
Generally sooner than with standard epoxy, and that's one of the main reasons to choose it. Exact timing depends on the product, the number of coats and the temperature on the day, so we'll give you real timeframes for your job rather than a blanket promise.
Can polyaspartic go around a pool?
Yes. It's a common choice around pools and outdoor areas because it copes with sun. Wet feet need grip too, so we'd look at building texture into the finish.
Can it go over my existing epoxy floor?
Sometimes. A sound existing coating can often be prepared and recoated, but a peeling or damaged one needs to be repaired or removed first. We'll check what's there at the quote.
